CONVENTION UPDATE

Ta da! A Convention announcement!
We just signed the papers and we thank you for your prayers as we worked on moving, well, a whole lotta details in just a few days.

Drum roll #1: The Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, FL (Orlando area) was able to welcome us (in the midst of many conventions needing to move).

Drum roll #2: We're able to keep the registration fees the same, so some of you might decide to come early or stay late, and enjoy the Orlando amenities with your friends (or family).

And thanks for all the great ideas of cities! You helped our future dreaming. 'Twould be fun!
And again, it will be great because of Who we'll be with: "Where(ver) two or three (thousand) are gathered in my name, there am I with them." (Mt. 18:20, our year's theme verse with my additions).

Convention Details:
The MOPS International Convention will be at the Gaylord Palms, Kissimmee, FL (Orlando area). Dates will be the same, August 5-7, 2010. Speakers and artists will be the same great lineup — Julie Barnhill, Margaret Feinberg, Donald Miller, Naomi Cramer Overton, Shelly Radic, Go Fish, Mandisa, The Katinas and Richie McDonald.

Convention registration will re-open on Monday, May 17.
The early bird registration deadline will be extended to June 7.
We are working with the Gaylord Opryland for an official letter we can provide to anyone who has already purchased airline tickets to use with airlines to avoid rebooking fees. This letter should assist you in rebooking airline tickets — it will be posted online at www.MOPS.org/convention.
We continue to pray for families and businesses affected by the flooding and we have sent MOPS materials to local MOPS leaders who are distributing supplies in the Nashville area.

What's happening at your MOPS Group this year?

Ah, the start of a new MOPS year...or is it really? As Steering Team Leaders you've probably been doing MOPS or at least thinking about MOPS all summer. Here's a partial new year prep checklist....

Be sure to register all your moms for the MOPS to MOM connection
Update your Steering Team with MOPS International
Create a schedule of meeting for the year
Have some great girlfriend time
Pack for Convention

What would you add to my list? Can you share your favorite twinkle ideas with other Steering Teams by clicking on comments? You don't have to register, but I would appreciate knowing which group you are with. What topics, speakers, crafts, special MOPS/POPS, MOPPETS crafts, hospitality gifts etc. can you brag about or suggest?

Let's help out our new groups by spreading the creativity around.

Love ya,
Barb

I was preparing a gift bag for the ST leaders when I found some really neat bible verses that talk about shinning, twinkleing, glowing,etc..... If you have a MOPS Mom's Devotional Bibles, you can find great devotions on page 545- Lighting the World based on Psalm 27:1-3 and page 1167- A Flicker or Flame? on Romans 12:11-13. Other great bible verses are found in Matt 5:14,Isaiah 60:1-5, and Song of Songs 8:6 (great for a topic on love).... I know there are many more. However, I just happen to have found these yesterday and thought I'd share them with you.

Our MOPS group places a bible verse on the tables each meeting, I think these will come in handy.

found this idea and thought it could be used to put togeter survival kits or use individually as favors for each meeting for the moms. Any ideas to add or improve the idea? Also, any ideas for scripture to add to each one? Come on ladies, let's brain storm this one!!! Thanks!

SURVIVAL KIT FOR ASTRONOMERS

Glitter - to sparkle all day long
rubberband -to stretch beyond your limits
skittles - to make a rainbow in the sky - God’s promises--This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
rocket - out of sight!; shoot for the stars
mars bar or milkyway -because you are out of this world; because you are so spacial; Men are from Mars...women are from Venus; you're a star in my galaxy, because you are out of this world; because you are so spacial
coupon for lunch together - so we can go out to launch
A gold thread: Friendship is the golden thread that ties together our hearts.
Shiny Penny - to remind you, each will shine in their own special way.
Candle: You light up my life.
A Star(Brachs Star Chocolate): To reflect your inner beauty; as a mother you are a Star
Jewel - because you are so precious.
A tiny bell -that rings ever so softly that represents how we must carefully listen to the still small voice
A sun - even though there is only one, many can feel the warmth.
A flashlight - for guidance.
A Candle - to give you light when you feel burned out.
bought star votives from Oriental Trading and had them personalized to say "Shine like stars... MOPS Steering 2005" ($7.95 dozen)
- bought thin silver bangle bracelets with one silver star charm on them at Target (sold in groups of 12 for $7.99)...each girl will get one bracelet
- bought tubes of star bath confetti at Michaels for $1 each
- of course, Starburst candies (big bag from BJ's)
- all will be wrapped up in cellophane with gold stars on it which I found at a party store on clearance
- purchased 'handbag charms' at ACMoore with stars and crosses on them for $2 each (we will give these to our Mentor Moms only).
- will buy star boxes with magnetic lids on them from Michaels (range in price from $1 - $3 depending on size) and will decorate them as a craft during the retreat. I really liked the idea posted here on using them as a "prayer box" and sending someone else's box home with them after the retreat to remind that mom to pray for her ST box mom. Then I thought each ST meeting we'd switch boxes up again.

Other ideas to add "Orbit" gum, twinkies, moon pies, starburst, etc.
